• Hi Ankita, kindly tell us more about your role at Flagright.

I am a software developer at Flagright. I mostly work on the backend to build and implement rules, but sometimes I also work on the frontend.

  • Did you always want to be a software engineer? What's the story behind that?

My entire family's background was in commerce and accounting, and I wanted to pursue something different. So I studied civil engineering, but by my second year, I found I was more interested in computer science classes than civils'. Then, I decided to keep learning how to program and solve problems related to programming while still focusing on civil engineering.

  • What made you want to work for Flagright?

I've always been fascinated by how startups operate and grow, given that working at a startup allows you to learn a lot and understand how things work from the start. I liked what Flagright was going to do—assist fintechs and startups in preventing financial crime, and I liked the idea that everything I worked on would be to help make it better. Now I look forward to coding every day.

  • What does a regular day's work look like for you?

My day is now mostly routine. I start my day at 10 a.m., work until 2 p.m. for lunch, and then work into the evening. And that doesn't stop me from working later at night on occasion due to time zone differences, especially if some tasks require clarification.

  • Tell us about something you learned while working at Flagright that has helped you improve personally.

I've learned a lot during the past few months. I now have a strong sense of responsibility for my work, which improves my confidence, and I've had the opportunity to attend a few customer meetings where I've listened to useful feedback on our products, which has made me feel more self-reliant and enthusiastic about the good I'm doing.

  • When you started, you were the first female employee. How’s it been so far?

I've always felt that as long as everyone is on the same page and recognizes we're all working towards the same objective, it doesn't matter, and it never has, since everyone at Flagright is always focused and helpful when needed, regardless of who you are, and it's been amazing so far. Plus, there's Camila now, so on the other hand, I'm glad it's not just me anymore, LOL.

  • What do you enjoy doing when you're not working on building and implementing rules?

When I'm not working, I like to read motivational and fictional novels and watch random science and fact-related YouTube videos. Aside from that, I live in a large family and am constantly surrounded by siblings and cousins, so I never feel bored and there's always something fun to do whenever I’m not working.

  • What are your thoughts on Flagright's team?

I think Flagright has such a great team! Everyone is polite, helpful, and patient. I remember when I first joined and had a lot of work to do, I was never hesitant to ask for assistance since I always got insightful comments on how to get rid of any roadblocks, and it really helped me improve.

  • What do you enjoy most about your job at Flagright?

I love getting new tasks every week, and it is something I look forward to. Every day, I've had the opportunity to learn something new, which is every software engineer's desire.

  • What do you think of the compliance industry and Flagright's solution to the challenge?

It's been a learning experience for me because I was also new to compliance when I started, and it's been enlightening to realize that many fintechs and startups haven't had access to solving their compliance challenges, primarily due to absurd costs and overbearing integration times, which is one of the many ways Flagright has been able to solve, as we only charge for what's used and our integration times take just about 4 to 10 days.
